WP gets more coffee!!

From a credible source: the plaza at Corona & Cameron where The Nomad is slated to open will feature another coffee shop by the name of Java Jones.

Let's hear it for the coffee glut! Now WP needs a real supermarket (sorry, Randall's), a movie theater, and a sushi restaurant, and it just may be possible to never have to drive anywhere.

Really? That's fantastic, but it's hard to see where another retail business would go unless the owners booted the nail salon, the hair salon or the bus service company.

There is a for lease sign for the unit on the east side of the building, but it seems awful small for a coffee shop.

Its supposed to be a "drive thru" coffee shop.

Um, then why do you care? Is this just a selfish, narcissistic, book-promotion tour? Let's call it what it is. You are not REALLY concerned with Windsor Park anymore. How many hits did your book website get today? Um...

I care because I used to care, Teseo, and because I care about my friends who live in WP and my neighbors. Also, I care because I'm coming back to WP someday. I left Austin because I was tired of griping about it, and I wanted to go somewhere else to see if I could recapture some of that sense of what makes Austin special to begin with.

As for book promotion, I know there are a lot of highly educated people in the neighborhood, but it's laughable to think I depend on the neighborhood listserv to generate web hits. I started this blog long before the book came out.

I know CH. I'm just giving you a hard time because you gave the Nomad such a hard time about the name "Nomad". Your book actually sounds very interesting since I have studied many languages.

You and I are in agreement when it comes to getting a real supermarket. Good luck on your move and your book, but us Windsor Parkians can take care of ourselves. We'll still be here representing the 2-3 when you get back.

On a lighter, more CH note, I also learned recently that the convenience store that used to be 7/11 will carry nice wines, a nice import and micro brew selection as well as have coffee espresso type drinks and pastries in the early AM. You used to complain about no coffee, now you will have three places all within a few feet of each other. Its a good life.... :)

Maybe *I* was the crucial obstacle to a cornucopia of necessities and luxuries descending upon WP? There's some narcissism for you, but come on: many of my best friends are self-centered.

I was looking forward to going to Miguel's place no matter what he named it, and now doing so has become even sweeter.

Dude, I hope the rest of the hood feels the same way... being that I am the first monkey that took the plunge, and now have direct, blatant competition-I have to hope this. Anywho, Nomads have never been erased and have always survived, so I hope the same will hold true to my place in WP.
Much luck to you CH, I look forward to serving our mutual friends soon, and you, when you get back. Namaste!!

P.S. You are an id freak, but then again, so am I. ;)

I can't wait for Nomad to open, each time I drive by I have visions of biking there and back. BTW, Miguel, great job on the sign outside the place. It's beautiful!

Thanks GR, Nomad will reward those who walk or bike to our place for sure, special discounts of some kind will be granted. After all, we want to REDUCE traffic in the hood we live in. Oh and the kudos to the sign belong to Will Larson, who did the sign above the south Whole Earth Provision as well as ours. His website is willywerks.com, him and his wife are dear friends, hes married to Claudia Alarcon, who knows her food, and writes for the Chronicle regularly in the food section. I hope to have her influence in my menu when I open. (please excuse the shameless plugs)
